WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

HDTV DXing is a practice in which people use outdoor antennas and amplifiers in order to pick up TV stations from far away.  The greater distances achieved here are mostly due to utilization of a radio frequency anomaly called Tropospheric Propogation, or Sporadic-E.  These are conditions in the ionosphere in which the signal from TV station's transmitters in different cities can be "carried" or "ducted" far away from their originally intended target audience. The benefit from this phenomenon is hobbyists like myself are able to use their receivers to scan and look for these broadcasts from far away.  We log the stations one of several different ways: either by a spreadsheet, chart, or by taking photos or even recording videos of the occurrence.  The purpose of this site is simply to share my experiences and information about this fun hobby with others.
